Mikaela Shiffrin, the greatest skier of all time, will be one of the owners of the Denver team that will play in the US National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) in 2026. Its presence, along with that of Boston Legacy FC, will bring the number of clubs in the US league to 16, double the number that started in 2013.

Shiffrin, with 101 World Cup victories, two Olympic gold medals and eight World Championship golds, is a native of Colorado. "I am beyond excited to join the Denver NWSL team ownership group and support something so meaningful in the community I call home," Shiffrin said.

"Colorado's sports culture is rich and deep, and the growth of women's sports in particular is one of the most exciting movements in our culture today," Shiffrin added. "To be a part of this and help bring professional women's soccer to Colorado is not only an incredible investment opportunity, but also an honor and a joy."

"Mikaela's commitment to excellence, global impact and her deep roots in Colorado make her a perfect fit for our ownership group," team owner Rob Cohen said in a statement. "We are building a club with purpose and having Mikaela's vision and voice on that journey is invaluable," he added.

According to L Football, Cohen and the Denver ownership group, which includes Shiffrin,plan to build a 14,500-seat stadium that would open in 2028 in Denver. Until then, atemporary 12,000-seat stadium will be built.
